Limited to 100 Prints Worldwide

This special edition photograph is strictly limited to 100 prints worldwide.

Available exclusively in A2 size, each piece is professionally produced as a fine art print and accompanied by a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity by Meagan Aherne, together with a beautifully presented brochure detailing the story, history and restoration journey behind the image.

More than a print, this is an opportunity to preserve and display a genuine fragment of the past — an artwork that connects you to a moment in history that can never be recreated.

Once all 100 editions are sold, no further prints of this size will ever be produced.

This photograph, likely taken in the early to mid 1920s, captures a moment when the American roadside was only just beginning to take shape. Before service stations became standardised and corporate, places like this were often small family run stores, built from rough timber and worn by years of sun, wind, and passing travellers. Out the front stands an early gravity fed fuel pump, the kind used before electric pumps became common later in the decade. At that time, stopping for petrol was not a quick transaction. You would pull in, wait your turn, and often step inside for a drink or a conversation.

Right at the top, a sign reads “Bottled Coca Cola, It’s Pure.” Coca Cola had been bottled since 1899, but by the 1920s it was rapidly expanding into rural America. Stores like this played a major role in that spread, bringing what was once a city drink into small towns and roadside stops across the country. Nearby, Sunkist appears, a cooperative established in 1908 to market California oranges, showing how far national branding had already reached. Even in remote areas, these names had become familiar.

Tobacco advertisements line the exterior, a common sight in everyday life at the time. This was more than a place to refuel. It was a general store, a meeting place, and a small centre of local activity where goods, news, and conversations were shared.

Standing quietly in the scene are the people who likely ran it. A family, present without ceremony, grounded in the place they built. These businesses were not just shops, they were livelihoods, often operating long hours to serve anyone who came through.

The road remains unpaved. The building is simple. Yet everything is shifting. Cars are becoming more common, travel is opening up, and with it these roadside stations begin to connect distant places in new ways.

This image was scanned from an original photographic negative and is now part of the Lumirra collection, preserving a small but powerful glimpse into everyday life nearly a century ago.

International shipments

Lumirra Collective is proudly Australia based, but we love shipping worldwide.

Please note: For customers located in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand, shipping costs may be higher due to the size and fragile nature of our artworks. To ensure you receive an accurate shipping price, Lumirra Collective will provide a custom shipping quote prior to purchase. Please note that shipping quotes do not include any applicable taxes or duties.

As a small business, I aim to be as open and transparent as possible — I’ve worked to keep shipping rates as fair as I can while ensuring each piece is safely delivered.

An unframed option is available, which significantly reduces shipping costs.

Framed pieces are securely protected and shipped in boxed packaging to minimise movement and reduce the risk of damage during transit.

Unframed works are shipped flat packs or in protective tubes, depending on size. This method prevents bending, creasing, and damage during transit, and is the safest and most reliable way to ship artwork.

Authenticity of Historic Images

Many photographs offered by Lumirra Collective originate from historic negatives and photographic materials dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, including glass plate negatives and early film formats used during the development of photography.

Each negative is carefully digitised using high resolution archival scanning techniques, preserving the remarkable detail captured in the original photograph and bringing these historic images back to life for modern printing.

Due to the age of these materials, some images may contain light scratches, dust marks, or minor imperfections from the original negative. While every photograph is carefully restored and optimised, certain characteristics may remain as part of the image’s authentic historical narrative.

All artworks are printed in the highest possible quality and are supplied without the Lumirra Collective watermark, which appears online only for image protection.

Colours may vary slightly depending on screen settings, device displays, and lighting conditions, and minor differences between on-screen images and the final printed artwork may occur.

Returns & Refund Policy

Each Lumirra Collective artwork is printed and framed to order, therefore we are unable to offer refunds or exchanges for change of mind purchases.

If your artwork arrives damaged or faulty, please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photographs so we can arrange a replacement.

All artworks are carefully inspected and securely packaged using protective materials designed specifically for framed artwork and glass, helping ensure each piece arrives safely and in perfect condition.
